My name is Katie Thacker and I live in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Victoria is on a majestic island called Vancouver Island.
I am a lover of movement. I grew up in Calgary, spending most of my time as a competitive gymnast and soccer player. As a child, sports were my safe place. It kept me focused, taught me how to work hard for a goal, and gave me the ability to understand how and why my body moves. Never did I think during my time as an athlete that my future career would be centred around movement and fitness. I moved to Victoria in 2010 to complete my degree in Environmental Science. This is were I met my husband Brandon, and where I was able to dive head first into the world of yoga. I completed my 200 hour vinyasa yoga teacher training in January 2013 and since then have dedicated my life to understanding the science of movement and the nervous system. I am Co-Owner of a small, multi-disciplinary movement studio in Victoria called Third Space Movement. Third Space specializes in functional movement, active rehab, kettlebells, mobility, and movement practices that embody a sense of play.
Communication is one of my greatest strengths. In all of my teaching, I focus on clear, concise instruction that allows my students and clients to achieve embodiment of the movement or action they are seeking to perform. I love to learn and am continuously researching new interests and further learnings around the topics of mindfulness & meditation, anatomy, breath, yoga, sleep, diet, etc. I love to take the information I learn and infuse it into my teachings through the multiple modalities that I instruct including yoga, kettlebells, breath & meditation, inversions, gymnastics, and mobility classes. I also have my own Yoga School which allows me to train others who desire to be yoga teachers in the style of Functional Flow, which is an anatomy focused style of vinyasa that brings in principles of functional movement to make the practice more accessible and inclusive for each persons unique body.
My hobbies outside of movement include camping, reading, cooking, playing card games like cribbage, playing mario cart N64, and spending quality time with loved ones.
